Everything you can do with your 3pple A wallet
One balance behind data, airtime, electricity, cable, internet and exam pins. This guide covers how the money moves, what happens when something goes wrong, and how to keep other people out of your account.
Creating your account
You need a Nigerian phone number you can receive a text on, and you need to be 18 or over.
Your password needs at least 8 characters. It gets you into the account; it does not let anyone spend.
Optional, and worth doing. It is the only way back into your account if you ever lose your phone number. More on that below.
It expires in a few minutes. If it does not arrive, wait for the timer and ask for another.
4 to 6 digits, and separate from your password. Nothing leaves your wallet without it.
Your wallet
A prepaid balance you top up and spend from. It is not a bank account.
Every movement in and out is written to a ledger with the balance after it, so any figure you see can be explained line by line, months later. You can see the whole list under Wallet.
Your transaction PIN
The thing that actually protects your money.
Signing in is not enough to spend. Every purchase asks for your PIN. This is deliberate: if somebody gets your password, or picks up your unlocked phone, they still cannot move your money.
- Do not reuse your bank PIN, and do not use 1234, 0000 or your year of birth. The app refuses the obvious ones.
- Nobody will ever ask you for it. Not support, not on a call, not in a message. See what we will never ask.
- Too many wrong tries locks it for a while. Your account stays open, you simply cannot spend until it clears or you reset the PIN.
Adding money
By transfer to your own dedicated account number, or by card.
Bank transfer
You get a dedicated account number in your own name. Money sent to it credits your wallet automatically, usually in seconds.
Card
Handled entirely by our payment partner. Your card details never touch our servers, and we do not store them.
A small flat funding fee applies and is shown on screen before you fund. It is the same whatever the amount.
Buying something
Pick the service, check the recipient, enter your PIN.
Prices are shown before you confirm and are the price you pay. They can change, because our own costs change, but a change never applies to something you have already confirmed.
When a purchase fails
You do not have to chase us. Three things can happen, and two of them are automatic.
The reversal window is shown in the app. You do not need to open a ticket or send a screenshot for a pending purchase to be refunded; a scheduled job re-checks every one of them.
Refer and earn
You earn a bonus when somebody you invited makes their first qualifying purchase.
- Bonuses are capped per month.
- Referral and promotional credit is spendable on the platform but not withdrawable to a bank account.
- Self-referrals, accounts from the same device, and patterns that look like farming are voided. Repeated abuse closes an account.
Ways to sign in
Your phone number or your email address, with your password. Either works.
You can type your number however you like: 0803 411 8890, +2348034118890
and 8034118890 are all the same number to us. If you have added an email address you
can use that instead, which is useful when you are signing in on a laptop.
Confirming your email
This is the single most useful thing you can do for yourself, and it takes one tap.
When you add an email address we send a link to it. Until you click that link, the address is unconfirmed, and an unconfirmed address cannot get you back into your account and does not receive security alerts. It is barely an email address on your account at all.
Once confirmed, it does three things:
- You can sign in with it as well as your number.
- You can send a password-reset code to it, which is the only self-service way back in if you lose your SIM.
- You get told by email whenever something important changes on your account.
Changing your number or email
Both live under Security. Both are deliberately slower than the rest of the app.
Changing your phone number
You need your password, the phone you use now, and the new phone. We text a code to each number and both have to be entered. That is the whole protection: without a code to your current number, somebody who stole your password could move your account onto their own SIM and lock you out of everything.
After a change, every device is signed out and you cannot change the number again for a while.
Changing your email
Your password, plus a code texted to your phone. The new address starts out unconfirmed, and we send a link to it. The old address is told it has been removed, if it was confirmed.
Forgotten password or PIN
Forgotten password
Tap Forgot your password? on the sign-in screen. Enter your number or email, and choose where the code goes: a text to your number, or your email if you have confirmed it. Then set a new password.
Resetting this way signs out every device and pauses spending for a few hours.
Forgotten PIN
Under Security, open Transaction PIN and choose I forgot it. You need your account password and a code texted to your number. Both, not either: a code alone would mean your SIM is the entire account.
If you lose your SIM
This is the case worth reading before it happens to you.
Almost everything that gets you back into an account goes through your phone number. If the SIM is gone and the line has been reassigned, that route is gone with it.
If you confirmed an email
Use Forgot password, choose Email, and you are back in within a minute. No ticket, no waiting, no proving anything to anybody.
If you did not
Contact support. They have to confirm you are the account holder, and a second member of staff has to approve moving your account. It takes time, and it can be refused.
What we will never ask
- Codes are for you to type in, never to read out. Every one we send says so.
- We will not ask you to move money to "secure" it. There is no such process.
- Tell us immediately if you think somebody has your details. The sooner you do, the more we can do.
A purchase authorised with your correct PIN is treated as authorised by you, which is exactly why the PIN is worth protecting.
Why spending sometimes pauses
After a password reset, spending is paused for a few hours. Your balance is untouched.
Resetting a password with a one-time code needs nothing but access to your phone number or your email. That is convenient for you and it is also the route somebody would take if they had managed to take over your line. The pause puts a gap between a takeover and the money leaving, which is the gap in which you notice your line has gone dead and call us.
During the pause you can still sign in, see your balance, see your history, and add funds. You just cannot spend.
Getting help
Open a ticket from Support in the app, or email support@3plea.com.ng. Include the transaction reference if it is about a specific purchase; it is on the receipt in your history.
